What are Secondary Submissions?
Secondary Submissions is a way for you (Pro members only) to reschedule your existing links to be submitted to any new sites that have been added to the system since the original submission was made thus meaning that your links can now enjoy an ENDLESS stream of new backlinks in the future!
When a submission is made to IMAutomator (whether a bookmark, RSS feed or something else), a schedule is created of the individual backlinks that will be made. For Light members, 15 of the available sites are selected but Pro members get their links submitted to every site that is in the system at that time.
However, the list of supported sites is not fixed - it is always changing. Old sites disappear or stop working and in order to keep IMAutomator effective, we remove these dead sites and replace them with new ones. The list of supported sites that is in the system right now is entirely different to the sites that were in place 6 months ago and will probably will completely different in another 6 months time.
As an example, lets say you submit a bookmark selecting one of the slower drip-feed options and it finishes some weeks later. In those weeks its possible that some of the sites in the original submission schedule would have been removed, and some new sites would have been added so what happens to your original submission? Normally, nothing - you would not be able to gain backlinks from the new sites as duplicate submissions are not allowed but all that changes if you make use of the Secondary Submissions feature.
Generating a Secondary Submissions Report
When you first access the feature, you'll be asked to generate a report for a selection of jobs. You'll be able to select the job type (Bookmark, RSS Feed etc), and only completed jobs will be shown. You can choose which Job ID to begin the search from - the default is 0 to show the oldest jobs first. To begin with, 20 jobs at a time will be shown but we are likely to increase this number in the future.
The report will analyze each of those jobs and see if there are any sites in the system which were not included in the original submission. For submissions made a long time in the past it is feasible that NONE of the existing sites were included which means a LOT of new backlinks await you! The report will be ordered with the jobs containing the highest number of seconday submissions at the top and then in order of Job ID, showing the oldest jobs first. Older jobs are more likely to have more submissions available.
From this report you can then select jobs to be re-submitted. As you select jobs, you'll see a running count of the total number of secondary submissions that will be generated from your job selection. You can continue to select jobs until a maximum number of submissions (initially 600) is reached - also shown on the form.
Choosing Your Submission Speed
When you submit regular jobs to IMAutomator, you are asked to choose a speed for the submission. The fastest option allows all the links to be submitted in a single day and the slowest option leaves several days between submissions. With the secondary submissions feature, these are scheduled as a single batch of submissions rather than a collection of individual jobs.
The jobs are rotated in order to spread out the backlinks as much as possible. So for example if you select jobs with ID's 1-10, and each of those has 6 secondary submissions, a batch of 60 submissions is made starting with the first site for Job 1, then Job 2, Job 3 etc.
What is important here is that when you select how many days to spread over the submissions - this applies to the ENTIRE BATCH of jobs, it is not on a per-job basis. Secondary Submissions can potentially allow you schedule hundreds (maybe even thousands in the future) of individual submissions in one batch but when you select a number of days for these to be spread over - this means that the whole batch will be finished in that time so for the faster options, there may only be a few minutes between each submission.
You will need to wait for the current batch of secondary submissions to complete before you can schedule a new one so if you have a great many jobs in the system, you may consider selecting the faster options in order to be able to keep up!
Choosing Which Jobs To Submit
The speed of your submission applies to the batch as a whole and not to individual jobs so what we recommend is that you select jobs for which a similar speed is applicable. For example, if you are submitting jobs for external sites that are not owned by you - articles, Squidoo lenses, hub pages and so on, pick the faster options because these big sites can handle having large numbers of backlinks come in quickly.
If you are submitting content from your own sites that are perhaps newer or have less traffic, then pick a slower submission speed. Either way, try to group your jobs together to fit the speed of submission.
Viewing The Progress Of The Secondary Submissions
Only completed jobs can be selected for re-submission but these will remain in the list of completed jobs - it would be confusing if they suddenly jumped back into the current list. However, each individual job will have the new submissions appended to it's schedule so you can look at individual jobs if you choose to but we also provide a report of the entire job as a whole.
This is presented in the same fashon as the schedule for an individual job but it shows the schedule for the entire batch in paginated form, in the order in which the schedule has been created. This means that you can simply return to the secondary submissions page at any time and see at a glance exactly how it is progressing. Once all the submissions are done, you'll be able to schedule a new batch of submissions.
